Welcome to my blog! I started this blog as a place to document my journey as a photographer. It's evolved over the last couple of years to include some random musings and a glimpse of what's going with me. If you have any feedback, comments or thoughts, please leave them! Just below you will find quick links to categories of my work. Enjoy!

It's already June 24th?

I really thought that with the end of spring quarter I'd find more time for blogging... Alas that was not the case. I still have one little thing (if you call translating Latin little) to do to complete my BA in Liberal Studies. But coming up pretty soon here, I'll be a real, official college graduate! WOOT!

Me with my sweet husband after the commencement ceremony. :)

I cannot WAIT for mid-July when all studying ceases for a few months!!!!!!!!! (Note, I didn't say forever! ;) More on that later.)

I never shared our winter quarter grades!

Jake had to get a C- or better in calculus and, as usual, he went above and beyond earning a C+! NO MORE CALCULUS EVER! Also, since calculus was such a trial last term, about halfway through the quarter he decided to start focusing all of his attention on calculus and completely ignored his other class - physics. By some randomness, he managed to get an A- in physics even though he quit paying attention and doing his homework after the 5th week or so. Crazy, but I'm thrilled the classes will transfer. :)

And, I scored a 4.0. In philosophy of all things. I managed to sort of understand Nietzsche. Lots of strangeness last term!

I was a pretty dang good high school student!

In order to register for spring quarter this afternoon I had to verify that I've been properly immunized. The easiest way for me to do so was to stop by my high school and pick up a copy of my transcript. I'd forgotten exactly what kind of grades I got and what my GPA was like. I did better than I remembered! This is the bright spot of my dark, wet morning. :D

SWEET!

I just got confirmation from the registrar's office that I do NOT have to take an additional history class. YAY!!!!!!!!!! Not that I have anything against history, but I took 3 liberal studies classes in my first year at WWU that were all history of western civilization. That, and the sooner I'm done with my degree the better! ;)

Long time no blog, what's up with that?

Lots. ;)

I enjoyed doing the 10 on Tuesday for part of last year, but I think I'm going to do some different things in 2009. Here are a few major updates:

  • I started school last week. Oh boy. I'm taking a 200 level course titled "Philosophy of the human person. One of the things about finishing my education at a Jesuit institution is the requirement of this class as well as Ethics and at least one theology & religious studies classes. So far it's okay. The other kids seem, well, like kids. You know, barely out of nursery school. If I could go back and check my attitude at the door, I would. I'd have finished my BA in psychology at WWU. Can't go back now though!
  • I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting the arrival of my good friend Heather's baby girl. She's due in 8 days. 8!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait. I've been longing to meet her for months now.
  • Each year my pastor names a theme for the year in our church. 2008 was the Year of Intimacy with God. Great year. 2009 is the Year of Boldness. I've been feeling a call recently to get involved with the youth in my church. In the church I used to attend, I worked with the children's ministry, teaching Sunday school and leading in AWANA. But the last couple of years I've felt the youth ministry calling to me. In fact, the last few weeks I've felt the Lord telling me to get involved and start a small group with some of the teenage girls. I spoke with our youth pastor about it yesterday and I can't wait to get started! It won't be until March because my class meets in Seattle until 6pm on Mon/Wed and youth group starts down by my house (~1.5 commute in the evening) at 6pm. :( Next quarter I'm going to aim for either a Tue/Thur class or something that gets out earlier. I really, really want to get involved.
  • I made this vegetarian (vegan even!) jambalaya this weekend. And it's GOOD. I used brown rice, so it took a while longer before it was cooked all the way, but YUM. I've had some every day! And there's still a bunch left. Though not as much as I'd like. I might have to make some more this week!
  • There are some students that I wish would either find a different major or just graduate. Ugh. I feel bad sometimes, but some of them just drive me UP THE WALL!
  • There are some students I wish would never graduate and leave me. The top two are those that work for me. I adore them and would keep them forever if I could!
Well, I think that ought to cover it for now... There's more, but I need to get some work done before I leave today!

Getting ready for school!

Tonight I made my first school purchase -

One of my students recommended this backpack. It has my top three wishes in a new pack - SOLID waist strap, a chest strap and several compartments. Can't wait to try it out!!

It's official...

Come January 5th, this girl is going back to school! My letter offering admission is currently awaiting a signature from the dean of admissions, but the awesome ladies down there are going to take care of it for me. :)

Oh boy, what am I getting myself into?!?!?

10.29.2008

I did it.

I submitted my application for admission to complete my BA degree. It's just in liberal studies, rather than something more interesting. ;) I should hear back by the end of November. Now I just have to start my list of school supplies!
