What to say about Dad... He's pretty awesome. I am so thankful for him. One of the many wonderful things about my dad is the way he helps me see a bigger picture. He challenges me to *really* think about what I think. My dad calls me on my stuff. ;) Sometimes my dad calls me just to chat. I love that. Some days he calls to say he's proud to be my dad. I really love that. There's a country song that goes -
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'.
Daddy's hands, were hard as steel when I'd done wrong.
Daddy's hands, weren't always gentle
But I've come to understand.
There was always love in Daddy's hands
Daddy's hands, were hard as steel when I'd done wrong.
Daddy's hands, weren't always gentle
But I've come to understand.
There was always love in Daddy's hands
Most of the song doesn't quite apply, but that does. I remember as a little girl that when I woke up from a bad dream, I always went to Dad's side of the bed. And as a teenager he told me that if there was ever anything I didn't want to do but my friends were bugging me about to just tell them my dad said no. He offered to be my scape goat. I don't remember ever having to use him that way, but I love that he was willing to be the bad guy.
He's not a perfect man or a perfect dad, but he's mine. I may not have been allowed to be a princess, but I'm definitely my dad's girl. :) At my wedding my dad and I danced to the following song. Every time I hear it or someone mentions the artist, I remember that day and how much I love my dad.
You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

I think that is so nice that you are letting your family know how much you care about them and love them. It seems that sometimes we let other things get in the way of telling each other how we feel.
Very nice idea. : )
